Local culture and customs
We are sure that
you will find Courtmacsherry a charming and diverting holiday
venue and the standard of hospitality and attractions are second
to none. It is an easy drive to Kinsale - famous for its many
gourmet restaurants, and close to Clonakilty, a pretty, historic
town typical of old West Cork. The location is well sited for
touring - Glandore, Baltimore, Roaring Water Bay, Bantry and
Glengarrif are an easy days outing. Cork city is less than
an hour. Killarney Kenmare, and the Ring of Kerry are all but
one hour away.
Summer festivals are highlights of the holiday season. There is a Courtmacsherry
Annual Village Regatta in August, and a Model Lifeboat weekend is held
in support of the RNLI. A story telling festival is held in September,
attracting racenteurs and bards from all over Ireland. All summer long
there are festivals in every local town or village, a different one every
week, celebrating the tradition and customs special to each particular
area.
Visitors find great entertainment in the local pub culture where most nights
you will find music in one of the local hostelries. The Irish know how
to enjoy themselves and are always welcoming to visitors who love to join
in for a bit of 'crack'. There are local restaurants of exceptional standard
and, in travelling to nearby Clonakilty at night and you will be sure of
good live music in several different venues.
The birthplace of Micheal Collins is just a 30 minute drive. Now made very
popular worldwide by the release of 'Micheal Collins'- the movie,
- this Irish legend and the area make interesting study.
When in Courtmacsherry be sure to sample both Murphy's and Beamish Stouts,
both brewed locally - and of course the world famous pint of Guinness.
Many excellent cheeses are also made locally, while fish caught from the
doorstep of the Wild Atlantic ocean will delight even the uninitiated. |
